Alexandra Kavanaugh, LCAT

I’m a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and drama therapist who works primarily with women and young adults navigating anxiety, eating disorder recovery, substance use, and major life transitions; the “what am I doing with my life?” phase, but make it clinical.

My background includes inpatient addiction treatment and harm reduction, which means I show up without judgment, shame, or rigid expectations about what recovery is supposed to look like. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, high-functioning-but-burnt-out, or somewhere in between, we’ll figure it out together.

I specialize in supporting women—especially professional women—who are used to holding it all together on the outside while quietly struggling on the inside. If you’re used to being “the capable one,” this is a space where you don’t have to perform.

My style is warm, playful, collaborative, and gently direct. I’ll meet you where you are, but I’ll also challenge you when it’s helpful (and yes, we can laugh a little along the way).

As a drama therapist, I integrate creative approaches with traditional talk therapy. That might look like storytelling, role play, or finding new ways to understand your patterns—but if that’s not your thing, we can absolutely just talk. No surprise improv exercises, I promise.

At the core, this work is about helping you build a more compassionate relationship with yourself, feel more grounded in your choices, and navigate change with a little more clarity, and a lot less pressure to have it all figured out.

Kate Attardo, LP-MHC

I am a Mental Health Counselor passionate about helping individuals and couples  navigate life’s emotional and psychological challenges. I offer a warm, supportive,  and nonjudgmental space allowing clients safety while exploring their thoughts,  emotions, and goals.

I believe therapy is a collaborative journey that honors your full humanity.  Whether you're navigating a life transition or working through long-standing  patterns, I’m committed to supporting you in the way that best fits your unique  needs. There is no one-size-fits-all method, so I draw from a range of therapeutic  approaches—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive  Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Existential Therapy—to create a flexible,  personalized path to healing that works for you.

With a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fordham University and  a background in fine arts, I bring a creative and empathic lens to the therapeutic  relationship. I have experience working with individuals and groups ranging in age  from 20 to 78, addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, and life  transitions. My clinical work has included roles at a community counseling center  serving residents of a NYC housing project and at the NYU Rusk Brain Injury Day  Treatment Center. In addition to my mental health work, I bring over 15 years of  professional experience advocating for and working with dogs, which continues to  inform my values of patience, compassion, and connection.

I am a proud member of the American Counseling Association.

Julie Schecter, LMHC

I am a Mental Health Counselor based in NYC. In my time as a therapist, I have worked closely with adolescents and adults struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions. I also have experience working with individuals with mood, personality, and substance use disorders. I am committed to approaching each therapeutic relationship with a trauma-informed, nonjudgmental, and affirming perspective. My goal is to create a safe, yet brave space for you to explore, reflect, and grow. I will collaborate with you to identify your strengths which will help you work towards and achieve your short- and long-term goals aligned with a life worth living. I implement mindfulness concepts and techniques to support clients in practicing acceptance and non-judgment towards themselves. I have extensive training in the modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy which I use to inform treatment based on your specific needs. Additionally, I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy to treat PTSD. Please reach out if you feel we may be a good fit.

I look forward to connecting with you and being a part of your mental health journey!

Work with a Therapist that Gets You

At Stefanie R. Therapy, we believe working with a therapist who truly understands you and your unique background is essential for effective healing and personal growth. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach; your cultural, personal, and life experiences shape who you are and the challenges you face. A therapist who "gets you" creates a safe and supportive space where you can be authentic, knowing your concerns will be met with empathy and understanding. This connection allows for deeper insights, more personalized strategies, and ultimately a more meaningful path toward mental health and well-being. Finding the right therapist can be the key to unlocking lasting change. We are here to help you find the right therapist on our team for you. If you’re unsure who you’d like to work with, contact our team below and we can help you find the right provider.

“Stefanie is a very caring and skilled therapist. She is personable, warm, and an excellent listener. At the same time, she is challenging and isn’t the type of therapist who will just sit and nod the whole session. She’s really involved and collaborative in the therapeutic process. I recommend Stefanie to anyone who’s looking for a therapist.”
